Lat Pulldown 1RM Calculator

Use a completed lat-pulldown set to estimate your one-rep max or the weight for another rep target. The rep-max calculation works with the stack or plate weight you record on that machine.

Keep the machine, attachment, grip and setup the same, and enter the weight as you normally record it. A different cable machine can give the same displayed weight a different meaning, so begin a separate record when the setup changes.

You’ll get an estimated max, your chosen rep-target or percentage weight and a chart of the supported rep range. The result keeps the machine and weight details together so you can use the same basis for your next set.

Read your lat-pulldown working-weight target

Use the target on the same lat-pulldown station, grip and recorded-weight convention. Choose the equipment-rounded value only when the stack cannot match the unrounded estimate.

Calculate above to see your current result and the numbers behind it.

Keep the pulldown setup comparable

Enter a completed set from the same lat-pulldown station, attachment, grip, seat position, and range of motion. Record the stack or station weight using the convention shown by that machine, then choose the target repetitions or percentage and an optional equipment increment.

A changed pulley, attachment, grip, or machine creates a different observation. The displayed number is the recorded stack or station weight, not measured handle force, and the calculator does not transfer it to a pull-up.

Weight unit
Choose the unit shown on your weights.
Weight lifted
Enter the weight used for your completed set, following the weight convention below.
Repetitions completed
Enter 1–10 full repetitions from a hard set with consistent technique.
Repetitions to estimate
Choose how many repetitions you want to estimate a weight for, from 1 to 10.
Percentage of your estimated max
Enter the percentage weight you want to calculate.
Available weight increase
Leave blank for the exact estimate, or enter the smallest total weight increase your equipment allows.
How are you counting the weight?
Choose the description that matches the number you entered. Keep this choice the same when comparing results.
Machine name
Optionally name the exact machine so you can compare like-for-like next time.
Setup notes
Record the seat, grip or stance you want to repeat next time.

Compare rep targets on this pulldown machine

The curve shows estimated rep targets in the machine's recorded units. It does not correct the stack number for pulley design or convert it into free-weight resistance.

The example below shows how to read the graph. Your graph updates after you calculate, and the complete values remain available in the table beneath it.

What the pulldown estimate can tell you

Use this as a repeatable estimate, not proof of your true one-rep max. The available study used to check the Brzycki equation tested free-weight bench press in 103 college women. That study checks the equation in that setting; It did not test lat pulldown. Pulldown stations can differ in pulley ratio, stack calibration and attachments, so compare results only on the same station and setup. Use a hard set of 1–10 full repetitions. Stopping early can understate the estimate, and this calculator does not accept higher-repetition sets.
