Elliptical Calories Calculator: Weight, Time & Effort
Find out how many calories your elliptical workout may burn with our elliptical calories calculator. Get an estimate that reflects your weight, workout time and effort.
Enter your body weight and workout time, then choose the effort that best matches your session.
Pick moderate or vigorous effort based on how the workout felt; machine levels vary by brand. This is an estimate for adults ages 19–59, not a reading from your machine.

How the estimate works
How this estimate is calculated
The selected activity value is combined with your body weight and active time. The session total includes calories your body would use at rest; the separate “above rest” figure subtracts them.
Total kcal = MET × body weight in kg × minutes ÷ 60; resting kcal = body weight in kg × minutes ÷ 60; kcal above rest = total kcal − resting kcal. Values are rounded after the calculation.
An elliptical example
About 175 calories total for 30 active minutes of Elliptical, moderate effort (30 min) at 70 kg body weight. This includes estimated calories at rest; about 140 are above rest.
What the calorie totals mean
The full session total includes estimated calories at rest. “Calories above rest” subtracts that baseline. Figures are rounded separately, so displayed values may not add exactly.
Choosing an effort level
Elliptical machines do not share one resistance scale. This estimate does not convert machine levels, incline, or displayed watts into effort. Published activity averages cover adults ages 19–59.

Elliptical questions
How many calories does an elliptical burn?
It depends on body weight, workout time, and which effort description fits your session. Your machine may use different inputs.
Can I use my elliptical resistance level?
Resistance settings differ between machines. Choose moderate or vigorous effort based on the workout instead.
