Barbell Floor Press With Bands vs Cable Fly Strength Standards
Compare your barbell floor press with bands and cable fly against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Use one clean 1–12-rep set per lift to review estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total selected cable weight and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, measure total tension at shaft height when both upper arms rest on floor and at full elbow-lockout height; record total band count and exact anchors/choking/doubling/routing. For the second exercise, use two matched handles and consistent station setup, move from the same open-chest position through matched fly arcs, and return under control. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
Barbell Floor Press with Bands vs Cable Fly Strength Standards
These bodyweight tables place the barbell floor press with bands and cable fly targets side by side from Novice through Elite. Use them to compare standards, not to force a particular ratio between the lifts.
Find the closest row in the men’s or women’s table. Every target lists Barbell Floor Press with Bands / Cable Fly, pounds first and kilograms second. Enter your own sets above for exact ratings without testing a true one-rep max.

How Your Barbell Floor Press with Bands vs Cable Fly Result Is Calculated
Each set is converted to an estimated max before the calculator assigns exercise-specific strength levels and compares them.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Barbell Floor Press with Bands and Cable Fly sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the barbell floor press with bands strength level
For barbell floor press with bands, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so larger lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.
3. Find the cable fly strength level
For cable fly, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.
4. Compare the two results
The lift with the lower Beginner-to-Elite rating is the priority. If both ratings match, the calculator requires a 10-point difference in next-level progress before naming a priority; otherwise it reports Balanced.
A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the barbell floor press with bands | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Rate the cable fly | Adjust cable fly targets with the two-thirds rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
Enter both sets above to see the estimated maxes, assigned levels, next-level targets, and comparison result.
How Men’s Barbell Floor Press with Bands and Cable Fly Standards Differ
What the men’s data shows:

Barbell Floor Press with Bands and Cable Fly Exercises Used by This Calculator
For a useful comparison, perform a strict barbell floor press with bands and a strict cable fly using the setup and load rules below. Use strict, repeatable Barbell Floor Press with Bands and Cable Fly tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.
Use the Barbell Floor Press with Bands setup and load convention
Use straight barbell/plates/collars over level rigid floor and matched bands anchored symmetrically beneath rack/platform. Record base mass excluding bands. Measure total tension at shaft height when both upper arms rest on floor and at full elbow-lockout height; record total band count and exact anchors/choking/doubling/routing. Never use color. Lockout tension > nonnegative bottom tension. Effective bottom = base + bottom tension; effective top = base + lockout tension. Score effective top; display base/effective bottom/effective top/`increasing resistance`. Lie with head, upper back, butt, and heels on floor; legs straight and passive; grip ≤81 cm. Lower until both upper arms contact floor, settle motionless one second without relaxing grip/bouncing, then press to simultaneous full elbow lockout without hip/leg drive. Same setup/curve across whole reps 1–10. Safe rack/hand-off allowed only before/after set; no spotter contact during rep. Belt, wrist wraps, chalk allowed; no shirt/Sling Shot/boards.
Enter total selected cable weight
Use two matched handles and consistent station setup, move from the same open-chest position through matched fly arcs, and return under control. Do not enter per-side weight, presses, fly-press hybrids, cable rebound, slamming, partial, unilateral, machine, or dumbbell reps.
