Cycling Calories Calculator: Outdoor Rides
Estimate the energy you use on an outdoor ride with our cycling calories calculator. See how your ride time and effort shape your calorie total.
Enter your body weight and active ride time, then choose the description closest to your ride.
Choose a listed pace or effort. Road speed alone cannot account for wind, hills, drafting, or e-bike assistance. Published cycling averages are a guide, not a measurement of your ride.

How the estimate works
How this estimate is calculated
The selected published cycling value is combined with your body weight and ride time. The session total includes calories used at rest; the separate “above rest” figure subtracts that baseline.
Total kcal = MET × body weight in kg × minutes ÷ 60; resting kcal = body weight in kg × minutes ÷ 60; kcal above rest = total kcal − resting kcal. Values are rounded after the calculation.
A cycling example
About 151 calories total for 30 active minutes of Easy outdoor cycling (30 min) at 70 kg body weight. This includes estimated calories at rest; about 116 are above rest.
What the calorie totals mean
The full session total includes estimated calories at rest. “Calories above rest” subtracts that baseline. Figures are rounded separately, so displayed values may not add exactly.
Choosing a cycling description
The listed choices describe general activity levels, not a model of your individual ride. Wind, hills, drafting, bicycle setup, and electric assistance can change actual energy use. Values cover adults ages 19–59.
Published activity averages for adults ages 19–59; individual energy use varies.

Outdoor cycling questions
Can cycling speed alone predict calories?
No. Wind, hills, drafting, equipment, and effort all affect a ride. The listed choices are general guides.
Does this account for an e-bike motor?
No e-bike adjustment is included. Choose a listed activity only when it matches your effort.
