Walking Calories Calculator: By Weight & Pace

See how your daily walk adds up with our walking calories calculator. Estimate the calories you burn at a moderate or brisk pace on level ground.

Choose moderate or brisk walking, then enter your body weight and minutes.

This estimate covers level outdoor walking on a firm surface, not hills or treadmill incline. Published activity averages are a guide, not a measurement of your walk.

How the estimate works

How this estimate is calculated

The selected published walking value is combined with your body weight and active minutes. The total includes energy used at rest; the separate “above rest” figure subtracts that amount.

Total kcal = MET × body weight in kg × minutes ÷ 60; resting kcal = body weight in kg × minutes ÷ 60; kcal above rest = total kcal − resting kcal. Values are rounded after the calculation.

A walking example

About 133 calories total for 30 active minutes of Level walk, 2.8–3.4 mph (30 min) at 70 kg body weight. This includes estimated calories at rest; about 98 are above rest.

What the calorie totals mean

The full session total includes estimated calories at rest. “Calories above rest” subtracts that baseline. Figures are rounded separately, so displayed values may not add exactly.

Walking conditions included

Choices describe two level outdoor paces on a firm surface. Hills, treadmill incline, and changing surfaces are not modeled. Published averages cover adults ages 19–59.

Published activity averages for adults ages 19–59; individual energy use varies.
