Trap Bar Deadlift vs Goblet Squat Strength Standards

Compare your trap bar deadlift and goblet squat against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Add a recent 1–12-rep result for each lift to compare estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First lift: total external weight and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: single goblet-held weight and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, strapless, neutral grip, from floor to lockout. For the second exercise, hold one dumbbell or kettlebell vertically at chest height for the full set, descend below parallel. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

Trap Bar Deadlift vs Goblet Squat Strength Standards

These bodyweight tables place the trap bar deadlift and goblet squat targets side by side from Novice through Elite. Use them to compare standards, not to force a particular ratio between the lifts.

Find the closest row in the men’s or women’s table. Every target lists Trap Bar Deadlift / Goblet Squat, pounds first and kilograms second. Enter your own sets above for exact ratings without testing a true one-rep max.

How Your Trap Bar Deadlift vs Goblet Squat Result Is Calculated

Both lifts are scored independently first: estimated max, bodyweight-adjusted strength level, and progress toward the next level. Those ratings drive the comparison.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Use recent Trap Bar Deadlift and Goblet Squat sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.

2. Find the trap bar deadlift strength level

For trap bar deadlift, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so heavier lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.

3. Find the goblet squat strength level

The goblet squat rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.

4. Compare the two results

Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.

The result identifies the lower standards rating, not its cause. Technique, fatigue, training history, and set quality can all affect the comparison. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the trap bar deadliftAdjust trap bar deadlift targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule.
Rate the goblet squatAdjust goblet squat targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

Trap Bar Deadlift and Goblet Squat Exercises Used by This Calculator

For a useful comparison, perform a strict trap bar deadlift and a strict goblet squat using the setup and load rules below. Use strict, repeatable Trap Bar Deadlift and Goblet Squat tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and weight-entry rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different weight conventions.

Use a strict, repeatable Trap Bar Deadlift

High-handle trap bar deadlift only. Strapless, neutral grip, from floor to lockout. Load entered is total external load on the trap bar. If reps > 1 are entered, 1RM is estimated using the Epley/Brzycki blend. No age adjustment applied; adult lifter standards (18–50). Percentiles are tier-anchored approximations, not precise population statistics. Enter total external weight. Keep the same equipment and setup when retesting.

Keep one weight in the goblet position

Hold one dumbbell or kettlebell vertically at chest height for the full set, descend below parallel, and stand to full hip and knee extension without resting the weight on the thighs. Do not enter a barbell squat, double-kettlebell front squat, machine squat, partial rep, or assisted squat.

Enter one recent Trap Bar Deadlift result and one recent Goblet Squat result

Enter the working weight and a whole number of strict repetitions for each exercise. Pounds and kilograms can be mixed.
