Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up vs T-Bar Bent Over Row

Compare your strict bodyweight pull-up and t-bar bent over row against strength standards for your sex, age range, and bodyweight. Use one recent result per exercise to compare strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First exercise: Strict continuous Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up reps. Second exercise: Total external load and a whole number from 1 to 12 reps. Use the units shown. For the first exercise, pronated grip with chin clearly above the bar at the top. For the second exercise, lifters hinge at the hips to achieve a bent-over torso position (approximately 30–45°). Repetitions are never converted into weight. Each exercise keeps its own measurement type. Age range changes only an exercise whose standards use age.

Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up vs T-Bar Bent Over Row Strength Standards

The men’s and women’s tables show the exact Novice-through-Elite targets for both exercises. Weight-based targets use bodyweight and display actual pounds and kilograms. Repetition and time standards keep their exercise-specific units and use age only when the individual exercise standards require it.

Age and bodyweight are never combined as row dimensions. Internal bodyweight-ratio scores are never displayed. When the exercises use unlike measurements, the table presents an explicit reference crosswalk instead of inventing a conversion.

Reference crosswalk: Unlike measurements are not subtracted or converted. Each column states its own reference and preserves the exercise’s real unit.

How Your Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up vs T-Bar Bent Over Row Result Is Calculated

The two exercises can use different measurements. The calculator rates each result against the standards for that exercise first, then compares the resulting strength levels and progress toward the next level. It never invents a reps-to-weight conversion.

1. Estimate the weight-based result

For T-Bar Bent Over Row, one rep uses the weight entered. For 2–12 reps, the calculator runs both estimates and keeps the lower result.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

For a useful Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up vs T-Bar Bent Over Row comparison, use clean, recent sets performed with consistent technique and range of motion. Lower-rep sets usually require less extrapolation.

2. Rate the Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up result

The exercise-specific tool supplies sex-, bodyweight-band-, and age-specific repetition thresholds plus a stretch target. The calculator uses strict continuous bodyweight repetitions and does not convert the repetitions into an estimated weight.

3. Rate the T-Bar Bent Over Row result

The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual T-Bar Bent Over Row tool. The target adjusts to bodyweight using reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

4. Compare strength level and progress

The lower strength level is the priority. When both exercises reach the same level, a priority appears only when one is at least 10 points farther from its next target. Otherwise, the result is Balanced. Age range changes only the exercise whose standards include age; it remains an analytics field for the other exercise.

StageWhat happens
Rate the strict bodyweight pull-up setCompare strict repetitions with the applicable exercise-specific thresholds without an estimated-max conversion. Measurement: Strict continuous Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up reps.
Rate the t-bar bent over rowUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. Measurement: estimated one-rep max.
Compare levelsUse each exercise’s own level and next target; do not compare or divide results that use different measurements.

How Men’s Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up and T-Bar Bent Over Row Standards Differ

What the men’s standards show:

Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up Elite targets18 reps → 18 reps

Elite direct-performance targets from the youngest to oldest listed age range at 120 lb bodyweight.

T-Bar Bent Over Row Elite targets193 lb → 355 lb

Elite weight targets from 120 to 300 lb bodyweight.

Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up and T-Bar Bent Over Row Exercises Used by This Calculator

For a useful comparison, perform a strict strict bodyweight pull-up and a strict t-bar bent over row using the setup and load rules below. Use strict, repeatable Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up and T-Bar Bent Over Row tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use the Strict Bodyweight Pull-Up setup and load convention

Strict, unbroken set of dead-hang pull-ups. Pronated grip with chin clearly above the bar at the top. No kipping, hip drive, or leg swing. Full arm extension at the bottom of each rep. One continuous set with no rest.

Use the T-Bar Bent Over Row setup and load convention

Use the following execution standard:. Bar is fixed in a landmine or T-bar setup with plates loaded on the free end. Lifters hinge at the hips to achieve a bent-over torso position (approximately 30–45°). Arms start fully extended at the bottom of each rep. Bar is pulled toward the lower chest or upper abdomen. Rep counts only if the bar makes controlled contact with the torso. Lifters must maintain a stable torso angle without excessive jerking or torso rise. No bouncing the weight off the floor or using momentum to initiate reps. Each rep must return to a full stretch at the bottom. Consistent range of motion and control must be maintained across reps. No use of leg drive or hip extension to initiate the pull. Raw lifting only. Disallowed variations:. Chest-supported T-bar row. Machine row variations (plate-loaded or selectorized rows not matching T-bar mechanics). Partial range of motion reps. Excessive torso extension or “rowing to upright”. Bouncing reps off the floor. Assisted or supported rows. Smith machine variations. Estimated 1RM is calculated from the entered load and reps.
