Single-Arm Dumbbell Row vs T-Bar Row Strength Standards
Compare your one-arm dumbbell row and t-bar bent over row against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Add a recent 1–12-rep result for each lift to compare estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: weight of the one dumbbell and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total external load and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep the support or hinge position fixed, row the dumbbell toward the lower ribs, hip, or side of the trunk. For the second exercise, lifters hinge at the hips to achieve a bent-over torso position (approximately 30–45°). Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
One Arm Dumbbell Row vs T-Bar Bent Over Row Strength Standards by Bodyweight
The paired standards below show what the one-arm dumbbell row and t-bar bent over row each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.
Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered One Arm Dumbbell Row / T-Bar Bent Over Row in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your One Arm Dumbbell Row vs T-Bar Bent Over Row Result Is Calculated
The comparison starts by estimating each max separately. It then rates both lifts against their own standards before identifying the lower result.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Set quality matters for this One Arm Dumbbell Row vs T-Bar Bent Over Row comparison. Enter technically consistent, challenging sets, and prefer lower-rep results when practical because the estimate extends less far beyond the performed set.
2. Find the one-arm dumbbell row strength level
The one-arm dumbbell row standards use the sex-specific strength levels from the individual One Arm Dumbbell Row tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.
3. Find the t-bar bent over row strength level
The t-bar bent over row rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
4. Compare the two results
Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.
Treat the result as a training comparison rather than an explanation of why one lift trails. Set quality, fatigue, skill, and training exposure all matter. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the one-arm dumbbell row | Adjust one-arm dumbbell row targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule while preserving the single-dumbbell load convention. |
| Rate the t-bar bent over row | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
How Men’s One Arm Dumbbell Row and T-Bar Bent Over Row Standards Differ
How to read both charts: Choose a strength level, find bodyweight along the bottom, and follow that level’s line. Zero means the two standards are equal. Above zero means the t-bar bent over row standard is higher; below zero means the one-arm dumbbell row standard is higher. On a phone, swipe the chart left and right to inspect the full-size lines and labels. The tables provide the exact pounds and kilograms.
What the men’s data shows:
The standards come closest at 120 lb.
Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite at every displayed bodyweight.
At Elite, the difference is 29 kg at 120 lb and 53.5 kg at 300 lb.
How to read the table: Every number is the t-bar bent over row standard minus the one-arm dumbbell row standard. A plus sign means the t-bar bent over row standard is higher. A minus sign means the one-arm dumbbell row standard is higher.

One Arm Dumbbell Row and T-Bar Bent Over Row Exercises Used by This Calculator
The calculator expects repeatable one-arm dumbbell row and t-bar bent over row results. Follow each exercise definition below so the two ratings are based on valid tests. Use strict, repeatable One Arm Dumbbell Row and T-Bar Bent Over Row tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and weight-entry rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different weight conventions.
Use one dumbbell, one arm at a time
Enter the weight of the single dumbbell, not a doubled or combined load. Enter total valid reps across both arms combined using the same load and movement standard on each side. Keep the support or hinge fixed and use a controlled full range without twisting, hip pop, curl-only motion, or shortened reps.
Use the T-Bar Bent Over Row setup and load convention
Use the following execution standard:. Bar is fixed in a landmine or T-bar setup with plates loaded on the free end. Lifters hinge at the hips to achieve a bent-over torso position (approximately 30–45°). Arms start fully extended at the bottom of each rep. Bar is pulled toward the lower chest or upper abdomen. Rep counts only if the bar makes controlled contact with the torso. Lifters must maintain a stable torso angle without excessive jerking or torso rise. No bouncing the weight off the floor or using momentum to initiate reps. Each rep must return to a full stretch at the bottom. Consistent range of motion and control must be maintained across reps. No use of leg drive or hip extension to initiate the pull. Raw lifting only. Disallowed variations:. Chest-supported T-bar row. Machine row variations (plate-loaded or selectorized rows not matching T-bar mechanics). Partial range of motion reps. Excessive torso extension or “rowing to upright”. Bouncing reps off the floor. Assisted or supported rows. Smith machine variations. Estimated 1RM is calculated from the entered load and reps.
