Leg Press (45° Sled) vs Dumbbell Reverse Lunge Strength Standards
Compare your leg press and dumbbell reverse lunge against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter one recent set of 1–12 reps for each lift to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: total plates loaded on the 45-degree sled and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back. For the second exercise, start each rep from stable standing with hips and knees fully extended. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

How Your Leg Press vs Dumbbell Reverse Lunge Result Is Calculated
The calculator estimates both one-rep maxes, rates each one against its exercise and bodyweight standards, and then compares the two ratings.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
The entered weight is used directly for one rep. With 2–12 reps, both estimates are compared and the lower value is used.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Set quality matters for this Leg Press vs Dumbbell Reverse Lunge comparison. Enter technically consistent, challenging sets, and prefer lower-rep results when practical because the estimate extends less far beyond the performed set.
2. Find the 45-degree leg press strength level
The leg press standards use the sex-specific standards from the individual Leg Press tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so heavier lifters are expected to press more sled load without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.
3. Find the dumbbell reverse lunge strength level
The dumbbell reverse lunge rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
4. Compare the two results
Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.
Treat the result as a training comparison rather than an explanation of why one lift trails. Set quality, fatigue, skill, and training exposure all matter. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the leg press | Adjust 45-degree leg press targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule. |
| Rate the dumbbell reverse lunge | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
Use the calculator above to view both estimated maxes, strength levels, next targets, and the resulting priority or Balanced verdict.

Leg Press and Dumbbell Reverse Lunge Exercises Used by This Calculator
For a useful comparison, perform a strict 45-degree leg press and a strict dumbbell reverse lunge using the setup and load rules below. Use strict, repeatable Leg Press and Dumbbell Reverse Lunge tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.
Use a 45-degree plate-loaded sled leg press
Keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back, and press to controlled full knee extension. Do not enter a horizontal, vertical, selectorized, single-leg, high-foot, partial, bounced, or assisted press.
Use the Dumbbell Reverse Lunge setup and load convention
Use two matched dumbbells simultaneously. Enter combined dumbbell load, not per-hand load. Dumbbells may be held at the sides or at the shoulders if both dumbbells remain controlled throughout the set. Start each rep from stable standing with hips and knees fully extended. Step backward into each lunge and return to full standing between reps. Keep the working/front foot planted and knee tracking in line with the foot. Back knee must lightly touch the floor or come within roughly 1-2 inches. Front thigh must reach at least parallel at the bottom position. Keep torso braced without excessive forward lean, twisting, or side shifting. Keep both dumbbells controlled without setting them down or supporting them. Use consistent backward stride length, depth, and side-to-side mechanics. If alternating legs, both legs must receive comparable work. If testing one side at a time, the weaker side defines the valid test load. No bouncing off the rear knee or rebounding from the bottom position. No pushing off the front thigh, rack, wall, bench, or other support. No partial depth, rushed reps, unstable foot placement, or shortened strides. No forward lunges, walking lunges, side lunges, curtsy lunges, crossover lunges, split squats, rear-foot-elevated variations, step-ups, pistol squats, skater squats, single-leg squat variations, barbell, Smith machine, machine, cable, landmine, kettlebell-only, assisted variations, or hand-assisted reps.
