Leg Press (45° Sled) vs Block Deadlift Strength Standards

Compare your leg press and block deadlift against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter 1–12 reps for estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, priority.

First lift: total plates loaded on the 45-degree sled and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back. For the second exercise, pull continuously to motionless full knee/hip extension with shoulders behind or in line with bar; no hitch, thigh ramp, downward bar motion, backward lean, or block shift. Heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

Leg Press vs Block Deadlift Strength Standards

These bodyweight tables place the 45-degree leg press and block deadlift targets side by side from Novice through Elite. Use them to compare standards, not to force a particular ratio between the lifts.

Find the closest row in the men’s or women’s table. Every target lists Leg Press / Block Deadlift, pounds first and kilograms second. Enter your own sets above for exact ratings without testing a true one-rep max.

How Your Leg Press vs Block Deadlift Result Is Calculated

Each set is converted to an estimated max before the calculator assigns exercise-specific strength levels and compares them.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

For the most useful Leg Press vs Block Deadlift comparison, enter clean, difficult sets performed with the same technique and range of motion you use in training. Lower-rep sets usually require less extrapolation.

2. Find the 45-degree leg press strength level

The leg press standards use the sex-specific standards from the individual Leg Press tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so heavier lifters are expected to press more sled load without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.

3. Find the block deadlift strength level

For block deadlift, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so larger lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.

4. Compare the two results

Each max receives a level from Beginner through Elite. The lower-level lift becomes the priority. At matching levels, a priority appears only when one lift is at least 10 points farther from its next level; otherwise the result is Balanced.

A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the leg pressAdjust 45-degree leg press targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule.
Rate the block deadliftUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

How Men’s Leg Press and Block Deadlift Standards Differ

What the men’s data shows:

Novice closest match120 lb

The standards come closest at 120 lb.

Block Deadlift target is higher4 strength levels

The higher target remains with Block Deadlift for Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite throughout the table.

Elite difference14 → 26 lb

Across 120–300 lb bodyweight, the Elite gap changes from 6.4 to 11.8 kg.

How to read this chart: Choose a strength level and follow its line across bodyweight. Values show the Block Deadlift standard minus the Leg Press standard: zero means equal, above zero means the Block Deadlift standard is higher, and below zero means the Leg Press standard is higher. Leg Press and Block Deadlift Exercises Used by This Calculator

Valid results depend on using the specified 45-degree leg press and block deadlift technique and load convention. Use strict, repeatable Leg Press and Block Deadlift tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use a 45-degree plate-loaded sled leg press

Keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back, and press to controlled full knee extension. Do not enter a horizontal, vertical, selectorized, single-leg, high-foot, partial, bounced, or assisted press.

Use the Block Deadlift setup and load convention

Use straight 20 kg bar with 450 mm plates/collars. Place outermost weight-bearing plates on two identical rigid level 4.00-inch blocks; shaft center is 4.00 + 450/2 mm = 12.86 in (326.7 mm) above floor. Lifter stands on floor. Conventional stance, hands outside legs; double-overhand, hook, or mixed raw grip; no straps/hooks. Bar starts motionless with plates fully supported and centered; no rolling/preload. Pull continuously to motionless full knee/hip extension with shoulders behind or in line with bar; no hitch, thigh ramp, downward bar motion, backward lean, or block shift. Lower under control to full dead stop and reset exact position. Total weight includes bar/plates/collars. Whole reps 1–10. Belt, sleeves, wrist tape, chalk, shoes allowed.
