Leg Press (45° Sled) vs Axle Deadlift Strength Standards

Compare your leg press and axle deadlift against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter 1–12 reps for estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, priority.

First lift: total plates loaded on the 45-degree sled and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total external load and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back. For the second exercise, count reps that pull a thick axle from a motionless floor start to full standing lockout with raw hands, with no hitch, bounce, rack start, strap assistance. Heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

Leg Press vs Axle Deadlift Strength Standards

The paired standards below show what the 45-degree leg press and axle deadlift each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.

Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Leg Press / Axle Deadlift in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Leg Press vs Axle Deadlift Result Is Calculated

Both lifts are scored independently first: estimated max, bodyweight-adjusted strength level, and progress toward the next level. Those ratings drive the comparison.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

The entered weight is used directly for one rep. With 2–12 reps, both estimates are compared and the lower value is used.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Use recent Leg Press and Axle Deadlift sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.

2. Find the 45-degree leg press strength level

For 45-degree leg press, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so heavier lifters are expected to press more sled load without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.

3. Find the axle deadlift strength level

The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Axle Deadlift tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.

4. Compare the two results

Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.

The result identifies the lower standards rating, not its cause. Technique, fatigue, training history, and set quality can all affect the comparison. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the leg pressAdjust 45-degree leg press targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule.
Rate the axle deadliftUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

The calculator above applies these steps to your exact entries and reports both lift ratings, both next targets, and the final comparison.

How Men’s Leg Press and Axle Deadlift Standards Differ

What the men’s data shows:

Novice closest match120 lb

The standards come closest at 120 lb.

Leg Press target is higher4 strength levels

The higher target remains with Leg Press for Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite throughout the table.

Elite difference92 → 168 lb

Across 120–300 lb bodyweight, the Elite gap changes from 41.7 to 76.2 kg.

Leg Press and Axle Deadlift Exercises Used by This Calculator

Valid results depend on using the specified 45-degree leg press and axle deadlift technique and load convention. Use strict, repeatable Leg Press and Axle Deadlift tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use a 45-degree plate-loaded sled leg press

Keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back, and press to controlled full knee extension. Do not enter a horizontal, vertical, selectorized, single-leg, high-foot, partial, bounced, or assisted press.

Use the exercise-specific Axle Deadlift setup and load convention

Use the total axle load, including the thick bar and plates. Enter only raw axle deadlift reps from the floor. Count reps that pull a thick axle from a motionless floor start to full standing lockout with raw hands, with no hitch, bounce, rack start, strap assistance, or hold-only substitution. Keep setup, range, and finish quality consistent across the entered set. Do not count substituted exercises or assisted reps.
