Kettlebell Clean vs Frame Deadlift

Compare your kettlebell clean and frame deadlift against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter one recent set of 1–12 reps for each lift to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, clean one kettlebell from the floor or a consistent hang to a secure front rack without a press, curl, crash, two-hand assist, or high-pull-only finish. For the second exercise, lift to motionless full hip/knee extension with shoulders controlled and arms straight; the frame may not be supported against the thighs or other body part. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

Kettlebell Clean vs Frame Deadlift Strength Standards

The paired standards below show what the kettlebell clean and frame deadlift each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.

Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Kettlebell Clean / Frame Deadlift in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Kettlebell Clean vs Frame Deadlift Result Is Calculated

The calculator estimates both one-rep maxes, rates each one against its exercise and bodyweight standards, and then compares the two ratings.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

The entered weight is used directly for one rep. With 2–12 reps, both estimates are compared and the lower value is used.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Use recent Kettlebell Clean and Frame Deadlift sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.

2. Find the kettlebell clean strength level

The kettlebell clean rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.

3. Find the frame deadlift strength level

The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Frame Deadlift tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.

4. Compare the two results

Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.

A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the kettlebell cleanUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Rate the frame deadliftUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

Kettlebell Clean and Frame Deadlift Exercises Used by This Calculator

Valid results depend on using the specified kettlebell clean and frame deadlift technique and load convention. Use strict, repeatable Kettlebell Clean and Frame Deadlift tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use the Kettlebell Clean setup and load convention

One kettlebell cleaned by one arm at a time. Total valid reps across both arms combined. Clean one kettlebell from the floor or a consistent hang to a secure front rack without a press, curl, crash, two-hand assist, or high-pull-only finish. Consistent setup, range, and finish quality across the entered set. No substituted exercise or assisted reps.

Use the Frame Deadlift setup and load convention

Use a rigid, free-moving rectangular frame that surrounds the lifter. It must have two fixed, straight, parallel horizontal side handles with centers exactly 40.64 cm (16.00 in) above the level platform at rest, 60.00 cm apart centerline-to-centerline, 32 mm diameter, and at least 15 cm usable length. Record all dimensions and apparatus identity. Weigh and score the actual combined mass of the frame, plates, and collars. weight symmetrically left/right and front/rear. The frame may not pivot, roll, slide on wheels, run on guides/cables, use counterweights, or obtain lever/mechanical advantage. Stand conventionally inside the frame with hands outside legs and one hand centered on each handle. Begin with frame motionless on floor. Lift to motionless full hip/knee extension with shoulders controlled and arms straight; the frame may not be supported against the thighs or other body part. Lower under control and reset for each of 1–10 reps. Belt, sleeves, wraps, chalk, and standard single-loop/lasso straps allowed. Figure-8 straps, hooks, tacky, deadlift suit, briefs, frame bounce, and assistance prohibited. Same frame, loading, stance, grip locations, and strap choice throughout.
