Front Squat vs Belt Squat Split Squat Strength Standards
Compare your barbell front squat and belt squat split squat against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter one recent set of 1–12 reps for each lift to see your estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and which lift you should prioritize.
Enter the working weight and a whole number of strict repetitions for each exercise. Pounds and kilograms can be mixed. Use a barbell front squat with a stable front rack, upright controlled descent below parallel, and full standing lockout and a strict belt squat split squat using the same resistance, setup, range, and execution on both legs and total valid reps across both legs combined. You can enter either lift in pounds or kilograms. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
Barbell Front Squat vs Belt Squat Split Squat Strength Standards by Bodyweight
These bodyweight tables place the barbell front squat and belt squat split squat targets side by side from Novice through Elite. Use them to compare standards, not to force a particular ratio between the lifts.
Find the closest row in the men’s or women’s table. Every target lists Barbell Front Squat / Belt Squat Split Squat, pounds first and kilograms second. Enter your own sets above for exact ratings without testing a true one-rep max.

How Your Barbell Front Squat vs Belt Squat Split Squat Result Is Calculated
The comparison starts by estimating each max separately. It then rates both lifts against their own standards before identifying the lower result.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
A one-rep set uses the entered weight. For 2–12 reps, both formulas are calculated and the lower estimate is retained.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Barbell Front Squat and Belt Squat Split Squat sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the barbell front squat strength level
The standards use the sex-specific front squat thresholds from the individual tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
3. Find the belt squat split squat strength level
For belt squat split squat, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
4. Compare the two results
The lift with the lower Beginner-to-Elite rating is the priority. If both ratings match, the calculator requires a 10-point difference in next-level progress before naming a priority; otherwise it reports Balanced.
Treat the result as a training comparison rather than an explanation of why one lift trails. Set quality, fatigue, skill, and training exposure all matter. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the barbell front squat | Use total-barbell estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule. |
| Rate the belt squat split squat | Adjust belt squat split squat targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule while preserving the belt-load and total-reps conventions. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
How Men’s Barbell Front Squat and Belt Squat Split Squat Standards Differ
How to read both charts: Choose a strength level, find bodyweight along the bottom, and follow that level’s line. Zero means the two standards are equal. Above zero means the belt squat split squat standard is higher; below zero means the barbell front squat standard is higher. On a phone, swipe the chart left and right to inspect the full-size lines and labels. The tables provide the exact pounds and kilograms.
What the men’s data shows:
The standards come closest at 120 lb.
Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite at every displayed bodyweight.
28.6 → 52.7 kg from 120 to 300 lb bodyweight.
How to read the table: Every number is the belt squat split squat standard minus the barbell front squat standard. A plus sign means the belt squat split squat standard is higher. A minus sign means the barbell front squat standard is higher.

Barbell Front Squat and Belt Squat Split Squat Exercises Used by This Calculator
Valid results depend on using the specified barbell front squat and belt squat split squat technique and load convention. Use strict, repeatable Barbell Front Squat and Belt Squat Split Squat tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.
Keep the bar in the front rack through full depth
Enter the bar plus all plates. Support the bar across the front of the shoulders, descend under control until the hip crease is below the top of the knee, and stand to full lockout while retaining the front rack. Do not enter per-side plates, back squats, Zercher or goblet squats, Smith or machine squats, partial reps, assisted reps, or reps that lose the front rack.
Enter the belt-squat resistance and total reps across both legs
Use the same belt-squat station, resistance, stance, range, and strict execution on each leg. Enter the selected or loaded resistance attached through the belt and total valid reps across both legs combined. Do not include bodyweight or substitute a bilateral belt squat, lunge, Bulgarian split squat, free-weight split squat, rail-assisted rep, machine-stop rebound, or partial rep.
Enter one recent Barbell Front Squat result and one recent Belt Squat Split Squat result
Enter the working weight and a whole number of strict repetitions for each exercise. Pounds and kilograms can be mixed.
