EZ Bar JM Press vs Push Press Strength Standards

Compare your ez-bar jm press and push press against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter one recent set of 1–12 reps for each lift to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total barbell load and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, reverse the same path by combined elbow extension and slight shoulder movement to simultaneous full lockout. For the second exercise, leg drive initiates the bar path and the arms finish the lockout overhead. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

EZ-Bar JM Press vs Push Press Strength Standards

The paired standards below show what the ez-bar jm press and push press each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.

Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered EZ-Bar JM Press / Push Press in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your EZ-Bar JM Press vs Push Press Result Is Calculated

Each set is converted to an estimated max before the calculator assigns exercise-specific strength levels and compares them.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

The entered weight is used directly for one rep. With 2–12 reps, both estimates are compared and the lower value is used.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Use recent EZ-Bar JM Press and Push Press sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.

2. Find the ez-bar jm press strength level

For ez-bar jm press, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.

3. Find the push press strength level

For push press, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.

4. Compare the two results

Each max receives a level from Beginner through Elite. The lower-level lift becomes the priority. At matching levels, a priority appears only when one lift is at least 10 points farther from its next level; otherwise the result is Balanced.

Treat the result as a training comparison rather than an explanation of why one lift trails. Set quality, fatigue, skill, and training exposure all matter. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the ez-bar jm pressUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Rate the push pressUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

EZ-Bar JM Press and Push Press Exercises Used by This Calculator

Compare like-for-like attempts by keeping the ez-bar jm press and push press setup consistent with their individual rules. Use strict, repeatable EZ-Bar JM Press and Push Press tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use the EZ-Bar JM Press setup and load convention

Use the recorded brand-neutral Olympic EZ-bar envelope; record actual mass/dimensions/grip and score bar/plates/collars. On a flat 0.0° bench use mirrored inner segments at 28–32 cm centers; head, shoulders, buttocks planted and feet flat. Begin at full lockout. Flex elbows forward/down as both upper arms lower together until they are 45° from the trunk line and the lowest bar surface is exactly 2.0 cm above the upper sternum/clavicular notch; pause motionless. Reverse the same path by combined elbow extension and slight shoulder movement to simultaneous full lockout. Maintain contacts and setup for 1–10 reps. Wrist wraps/chalk/handoff allowed; elbow sleeves, supportive shirt, leg-driven contact loss, bounce, bar contact, and assistance prohibited.

Use the exercise-specific Push Press setup and load convention

Barbell starts in the front rack position at the shoulders. A controlled dip is performed using the legs and hips before driving the bar upward. Leg drive initiates the bar path and the arms finish the lockout overhead. Each rep counts only when the bar is fully locked out overhead with elbows fully extended. The bar must remain under control throughout the full range of motion. Dip depth and technique must stay consistent across tests. Raw lifting only. Allowed equipment: barbell, rack, belt (optional), wrist wraps (optional), lifting shoes (optional). Excluded variations: strict overhead press (no leg drive), push jerk, split jerk, partial lockout reps, Smith machine pressing, and machine shoulder press variations. Estimated 1RM is calculated from the entered load and reps.
