Barbell Push Jerk vs Barbell Split Jerk Strength Standards
Compare your barbell push jerk and barbell split jerk against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Test each lift with 1–12 strict reps to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: total barbell load and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total barbell load and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, consistent grip, stance, dip depth, receiving style, and recovery standard. For the second exercise, front-rack start, controlled dip, vertical drive, split catch, locked elbows, foot recovery, and stable standing finish. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
Barbell Push Jerk vs Barbell Split Jerk Strength Standards
The paired standards below show what the barbell push jerk and barbell split jerk each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.
Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Barbell Push Jerk / Barbell Split Jerk in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Barbell Push Jerk vs Barbell Split Jerk Result Is Calculated
Both lifts are scored independently first: estimated max, bodyweight-adjusted strength level, and progress toward the next level. Those ratings drive the comparison.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Barbell Push Jerk and Barbell Split Jerk sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the barbell push jerk strength level
The barbell push jerk rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
3. Find the barbell split jerk strength level
The barbell split jerk rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so larger lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.
4. Compare the two results
Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.
The result identifies the lower standards rating, not its cause. Technique, fatigue, training history, and set quality can all affect the comparison. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the barbell push jerk | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Rate the barbell split jerk | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |

Use the Barbell Push Jerk setup and load convention
Total barbell load, bodyweight, and reps. Stable front-rack or shoulder-start position. Controlled dip with mostly vertical torso. Vertical leg drive. Clear rebend under the bar. No-split overhead catch. Full elbow, hip, and knee lockout. Controlled standing recovery before the rep counts. No push press, press-out, split jerk, squat jerk, thruster, or clean-and-jerk substitution. Consistent grip, stance, dip depth, receiving style, and recovery standard.
Use the Barbell Split Jerk setup and load convention
Total barbell weight, bodyweight, and reps. Front-rack start, controlled dip, vertical drive, split catch, locked elbows, foot recovery, and stable standing finish. No push presses, no-split push jerks, squat jerks, clean-and-jerk totals, thrusters, press-outs, unstable catches, and strongman implement substitutions.
