Barbell Power Clean vs Double Kettlebell Power Clean Strength Standards

Compare your barbell power clean and double kettlebell power clean against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Test each lift with 1–12 strict reps to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First lift: total barbell weight and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, begin every rep motionless on the floor, reach full extension, turn the bar over into a secure front rack above parallel, and stand tall. For the second exercise, return both under control to the floor and settle before each of 1–5 reps. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

Barbell Power Clean vs Double Kettlebell Power Clean Strength Standards

The paired standards below show what the power clean and double kettlebell power clean each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.

Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Power Clean / Double Kettlebell Power Clean in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Barbell Power Clean vs Double Kettlebell Power Clean Result Is Calculated

The calculator estimates both one-rep maxes, rates each one against its exercise and bodyweight standards, and then compares the two ratings.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

A one-rep set uses the entered weight. For 2–12 reps, both formulas are calculated and the lower estimate is retained.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Set quality matters for this Barbell Power Clean vs Double Kettlebell Power Clean comparison. Enter technically consistent, challenging sets, and prefer lower-rep results when practical because the estimate extends less far beyond the performed set.

2. Find the power clean strength level

The standards use the sex-specific levels from the individual Barbell Power Clean tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.

3. Find the double kettlebell power clean strength level

The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Double Kettlebell Power Clean tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.

4. Compare the two results

The lift with the lower Beginner-to-Elite rating is the priority. If both ratings match, the calculator requires a 10-point difference in next-level progress before naming a priority; otherwise it reports Balanced.

A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the power cleanAdjust power clean targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule.
Rate the double kettlebell power cleanUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

Use the calculator above to view both estimated maxes, strength levels, next targets, and the resulting priority or Balanced verdict.

Barbell Power Clean and Double Kettlebell Power Clean Exercises Used by This Calculator

For a useful comparison, perform a strict power clean and a strict double kettlebell power clean using the setup and load rules below. Use strict, repeatable Barbell Power Clean and Double Kettlebell Power Clean tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Start from the floor and catch above parallel

Enter total barbell weight. Begin every rep motionless on the floor, reach full extension, turn the bar over into a secure front rack above parallel, and stand tall. Do not enter a hang clean, squat clean, muscle clean, high pull without a catch, bounced rep, press-out, strapped lift, or machine variation.

Use the Double Kettlebell Power Clean setup and load convention

Use two equal kettlebells. Enter one verified kettlebell mass; display per and combined; score the combined pair. Begin with both bells motionless on the floor between the feet, handles aligned, arms straight, and stance fixed. Extend hips/knees and guide both bells close so the handles rotate around the hands. Receive simultaneously in a double front rack with bells on forearms, wrists neutral, visible two-side knee/hip rebend, and both hip creases above the tops of the knees. Recover to motionless full standing with elbows connected to the trunk and no bell crash. Return both under control to the floor and settle before each of 1–5 reps. Chalk, belt, wrist wraps, and stable shoes allowed; straps/hooks, assistance, and supportive suits prohibited.
