Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press vs Barbell Push Jerk Strength Standards
Compare your barbell behind the neck push press and barbell push jerk against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Test each lift with 1–12 strict reps to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total barbell load and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, use one controlled dip and drive to launch the bar from behind the neck, then press to full overhead lockout without a jerk-style rebend or split. For the second exercise, consistent grip, stance, dip depth, receiving style, and recovery standard. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

How Your Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press vs Barbell Push Jerk Result Is Calculated
The comparison starts by estimating each max separately. It then rates both lifts against their own standards before identifying the lower result.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press and Barbell Push Jerk sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the barbell behind the neck push press strength level
For barbell behind the neck push press, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so larger lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.
3. Find the barbell push jerk strength level
The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Barbell Push Jerk tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.
4. Compare the two results
Each max receives a level from Beginner through Elite. The lower-level lift becomes the priority. At matching levels, a priority appears only when one lift is at least 10 points farther from its next level; otherwise the result is Balanced.
A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the barbell behind the neck push press | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Rate the barbell push jerk | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |

Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press and Barbell Push Jerk Exercises Used by This Calculator
Valid results depend on using the specified barbell behind the neck push press and barbell push jerk technique and load convention. Use strict, repeatable Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press and Barbell Push Jerk tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and weight-entry rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different weight conventions.
Use the Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press setup and load convention
The entered weight for strict Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press. Valid Barbell Behind The Neck Push Press reps. Use one controlled dip and drive to launch the bar from behind the neck, then press to full overhead lockout without a jerk-style rebend or split. No substituted exercise or assisted reps.
Use the Barbell Push Jerk setup and load convention
Total barbell load, bodyweight, and reps. Stable front-rack or shoulder-start position. Controlled dip with mostly vertical torso. Vertical leg drive. Clear rebend under the bar. No-split overhead catch. Full elbow, hip, and knee lockout. Controlled standing recovery before the rep counts. No push press, press-out, split jerk, squat jerk, thruster, or clean-and-jerk substitution. Consistent grip, stance, dip depth, receiving style, and recovery standard.
