Barbell Back Squat With Bands vs Goblet Squat Strength Standards
Compare your barbell back squat with bands and goblet squat against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Add a recent 1–12-rep result for each lift to compare estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: single goblet-held weight and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, measure total tension from all bands at shaft height in the valid bottom position and at shaft height in full standing lockout, in same force unit as weight. For the second exercise, hold one dumbbell or kettlebell vertically at chest height for the full set, descend below parallel. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
Barbell Back Squat with Bands vs Goblet Squat Strength Standards
Use these tables to compare the estimated one-rep max required for the barbell back squat with bands and goblet squat to reach the same strength level at each listed bodyweight. The numbers are calculator targets, not a required gap between the two lifts.
Choose the men’s or women’s table, find the closest bodyweight row, and read across to Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, or Elite. Each entry shows Barbell Back Squat with Bands / Goblet Squat, with pounds above kilograms. Use the calculator for your exact bodyweight and recent sets.

How Your Barbell Back Squat with Bands vs Goblet Squat Result Is Calculated
Each set is converted to an estimated max before the calculator assigns exercise-specific strength levels and compares them.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
A one-rep set uses the entered weight. For 2–12 reps, both formulas are calculated and the lower estimate is retained.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Barbell Back Squat with Bands and Goblet Squat sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the barbell back squat with bands strength level
The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Barbell Back Squat with Bands tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.
3. Find the goblet squat strength level
For goblet squat, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
4. Compare the two results
Each max receives a level from Beginner through Elite. The lower-level lift becomes the priority. At matching levels, a priority appears only when one lift is at least 10 points farther from its next level; otherwise the result is Balanced.
A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the barbell back squat with bands | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Rate the goblet squat | Adjust goblet squat targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
Use the calculator above to view both estimated maxes, strength levels, next targets, and the resulting priority or Balanced verdict.

Barbell Back Squat with Bands and Goblet Squat Exercises Used by This Calculator
Compare like-for-like attempts by keeping the barbell back squat with bands and goblet squat setup consistent with their individual rules. Use strict, repeatable Barbell Back Squat with Bands and Goblet Squat tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.
Use the Barbell Back Squat with Bands setup and load convention
Use a straight barbell high on upper trapezius, plates/collars, and matched bands anchored symmetrically below the bar. Raw standard: belt, sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk, shoes allowed; no suit, briefs, rebound wraps, or assistance. Record weighted barbell mass including bar/plates/collars but excluding bands. Measure total tension from all bands at shaft height in the valid bottom position and at shaft height in full standing lockout, in same force unit as weight. Do not infer tension from color. Record total number of physical bands and exact attachment configuration including anchor points, doubling/choking, and routing. Bottom tension must be nonnegative and lockout tension must be greater than bottom tension. Effective bottom weight = weighted barbell mass + measured bottom tension. Effective top weight = weighted barbell mass + measured lockout tension. Entered scoring weight is effective top weight; results must also display base barbell, effective bottom, effective top, and direction `increasing resistance`. Begin fully standing. Descend until hip crease is below top of knee; ascend without bounce/setup shift to motionless full knee/hip extension. Same feet, bar placement, bands, anchors, routing, measurements, and resistance curve across 1–10 counted reps.
Keep one weight in the goblet position
Hold one dumbbell or kettlebell vertically at chest height for the full set, descend below parallel, and stand to full hip and knee extension without resting the weight on the thighs. Do not enter a barbell squat, double-kettlebell front squat, machine squat, partial rep, or assisted squat.
