Why RDL Strength Does Not Match Conventional Deadlift
The Romanian Deadlift begins from standing and emphasizes a controlled lowering phase followed by a hip-driven return. The Conventional Deadlift begins motionless on the floor, so the lifter must create tension, push through the floor, and keep the bar close before reaching the stronger upper portion.
RDL depth is limited by the lifter’s ability to keep the back set and the bar controlled with a soft fixed knee bend. Conventional Deadlift range is set by the floor and plate height. These differences mean two lifters with the same RDL set can have different Deadlift results.

Return to full hip lockout without leaning backward. Every counted rep should use the same depth, knee bend, bar path, and finish. Stop the set when technique changes rather than counting shortened or bounced repetitions.
