Weightlifting Calories Burned Calculator

Use this Weightlifting Calories Burned Calculator to estimate the energy used during a lifting session from your bodyweight, session time and the type of resistance training you performed.

Choose the activity description that best matches both the lifting and rest periods in your session. The result uses a published MET value and stays an estimate; it does not claim exact calories per repetition.

You’ll get total session calories, calories above your resting baseline and a duration comparison you can save, copy, share or print.

Your Weightlifting Calorie Estimate

Your selected result is either total session energy or energy above rest. The result card also shows the other value so you can tell whether the resting baseline is included.

Save the activity category, bodyweight and duration with the estimate when you want to compare sessions using the same convention.

Describe the Session You Performed

Enter bodyweight and the full session duration, including the rest periods described by the activity category. Choose free weights, squat/deadlift training, mixed lifting or circuits based on the best available match.

The category choice matters more than the name of one exercise. A session with long rests should not be treated as continuous circuit training.

Weight unit

Bodyweight
Enter your current bodyweight, without any extra exercise weight.
Workout duration
Enter how many minutes the selected activity lasted.
Workout style
Choose the description that best matches this part of your workout.

Supported weight-training activities

Choose the row that best describes the whole timed session, including its rest pattern. The calculator uses the matching 2024 Adult Compendium MET value.

Compare Calories by Session Length

The duration chart shows total calories and calories above rest for the same bodyweight and activity choice. It helps you see how the estimate changes with time without implying that every minute is identical.

The table includes the resting baseline so gross and net values cannot be confused.

How Lifting Calories Are Estimated

Gross calories use the selected MET × bodyweight in kilograms × time in hours. Above-rest calories subtract one MET for the energy you would have used during that time at rest.

The calculator uses the 2024 Adult Compendium activity values and exact unit conversion. It does not use repetitions, bar weight or heart-rate data.

Why the Estimate Can Differ

MET values describe groups and activity categories, so individual technique, work-to-rest ratio and physiology can change actual energy use. Treat a small difference between sessions as an estimate, not a measured change.
