Understanding Your Score
Your primary Farmer’s Walk result divides the total weight carried across both hands by bodyweight, then compares that ratio with the fixed boundaries for a continuous 30-second carry. A 200 lb athlete carrying 200 lb total has a 1.00x ratio and an Intermediate fixed result. Whether the two weights are 100 + 100 lb or 90 + 110 lb, the entered total is 200 lb.
The Age & Sex Context card answers a different question. It divides the fixed total-weight ratio by the selected cohort’s within-sex grip multiplier and classifies that equivalent ratio with the same boundaries. It never rewrites the fixed result. Two athletes with the same bodyweight and total weight receive the same fixed tier even if their ages, sexes, or left-to-right weight split differ; only the clearly labeled context result can differ.

Strength Standards
These standards apply only to a continuous 30-second Farmer’s Walk and use the total weight carried across both hands divided by bodyweight. The fixed tier is identical for every age and sex. The practical-weight tables translate those ratios into pounds and kilograms. The two age charts add a separate age-and-sex context layer informed by grip patterns; they do not replace or modify the fixed standards.

Each threshold below is total weight carried as a percentage of bodyweight for the full 30-second test. The male curve uses each age band’s median male grip relative to the peak male median. A lower context threshold at an older age does not lower the fixed standard.

Farmers Carry by Age Chart: Female
The female curve uses each age band’s median female grip relative to the peak female median. It does not apply an absolute male-to-female strength ratio. The chart is a transparent context proxy, not a direct farmer’s-carry percentile or a prescribed starting weight.

How the Calculator Works
The calculator converts bodyweight and total weight carried to a common unit before dividing total weight by bodyweight. Exact lower-inclusive boundaries determine the fixed tier. It then selects the age-and-sex multiplier, calculates the context-equivalent ratio, and applies the same tier boundaries to that separate result. Pounds and kilograms return equivalent ratios and tiers.

Sources and Methodology
The primary levels are Endura’s fixed 30-second performance benchmarks, not population percentiles. The calculator divides total weight carried across both hands by bodyweight, then applies the exact 1.00x, 1.50x, and 2.00x boundaries shown above. Those boundaries stay unchanged for every age and sex.
The separate age-and-sex comparison uses the age pattern reported by Dodds, Syddall, Cooper, and colleagues. Their study combined 60,803 grip-strength observations from 49,964 participants across twelve British population studies. Endura divides each cohort’s median grip value by the peak median within the same sex, then uses that multiplier only for the secondary context result.

The source does not measure Farmer’s Walks and does not account for height, hand size, health, pain, training history, handle diameter, implement swing, pace, terrain, turns, trunk endurance, or technique. The context result therefore explains how the fixed performance compares with an age-related grip pattern; it does not prescribe a weight or claim to be a direct carry norm.
Testing Rules
A valid result uses the same implement types and handles, the same total-weight accounting, a continuous 30-second carry, and a repeatable lane, surface, and turn convention. Start the clock when forward movement begins under control and stop at 30 seconds. Add the weights carried in both hands. The calculator does not separately score distance, pace, repetitions, or left-to-right weight distribution.

Elite Strength Levels
Elite begins when total weight carried reaches at least 2.00x bodyweight for the complete 30 seconds. This is a very demanding fixed standard. The context result may reach Elite at a lower total-weight ratio for some age cohorts, but only the unchanged fixed ratio determines whether the primary result is Elite.

Use the Dumbbell Farmer’s Hold calculator when the implements stay still instead of moving through a course. A stationary hold changes gait, turns, and trunk demand, so record its weight and duration in that tool rather than treating it as this continuous walking test.
Yoke Walk Strength Standards
Choose Yoke Walk when the weight rests across the upper back and is scored over its own fixed distance. It emphasizes a different implement, carrying position, and test condition, even though both movements challenge bracing and loaded locomotion.
Sandbag Carry Strength Standards
Open Sandbag Carry for a front-held or body-supported implement whose total bag weight is the relevant entry. The grip, posture, and weight accounting differ from equal weights hanging at the sides, so keep the two standards separate.
Sled Push Strength Standards
Use Sled Push when the athlete drives an implement across the ground instead of carrying weight in both hands. Surface friction and sled weight dominate that test, which makes Farmer’s Walk total-weight ratios inappropriate for interpreting the result.
Trap Bar Deadlift Strength Standards
Use Trap Bar Deadlift for maximal hinge strength measured through a lifted bar rather than a continuous loaded walk. It can help separate pickup strength from grip-and-carry performance, but its one-repetition result must stay inside the deadlift calculator.
