Weighted Push-Ups (standard) vs Standing Log Overhead Press

Compare your weighted push-up and standing log overhead press against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter one recent set of 1–12 reps for each lift to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First lift: added weight and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: total barbell load and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep a straight line from shoulders to heels, lower the sternum to roughly two to three inches from the floor. For the second exercise, complete strict standing log overhead press repetitions through full range with a stable setup, controlled weight, and no assistance. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

Weighted Push-Ups vs Standing Log Overhead Press Strength Standards

The paired standards below show what the weighted push-up and standing log overhead press each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.

Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Weighted Push-Ups / Standing Log Overhead Press in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Weighted Push-Ups vs Standing Log Overhead Press Result Is Calculated

The calculator estimates both one-rep maxes, rates each one against its exercise and bodyweight standards, and then compares the two ratings.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

When the set contains one rep, the entered load is the estimate. For 2–12 reps, the calculator keeps the less aggressive of the two formula results.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Use recent Weighted Push-Ups and Standing Log Overhead Press sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.

2. Find the weighted push-up strength level

The individual weighted push-up tool supplies sex-specific standards for estimated added weight divided by bodyweight. Novice through Elite use the exercise-specific added-weight-to-bodyweight thresholds. No unsupported Stretch target is added above Elite.

3. Find the standing log overhead press strength level

The standing log overhead press rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so larger lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.

4. Compare the two results

Each max receives a level from Beginner through Elite. The lower-level lift becomes the priority. At matching levels, a priority appears only when one lift is at least 10 points farther from its next level; otherwise the result is Balanced.

The result identifies the lower standards rating, not its cause. Technique, fatigue, training history, and set quality can all affect the comparison. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.
Rate the weighted push-upUse the weighted push-up added-weight standards directly without changing their specialized bodyweight method.
Rate the standing log overhead pressUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.
Compare different levelsName the lower-level lift as the priority.
Compare matching levelsUse Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points.

Weighted Push-Ups and Standing Log Overhead Press Exercises Used by This Calculator

The calculator expects repeatable weighted push-up and standing log overhead press results. Follow each exercise definition below so the two ratings are based on valid tests. Use strict, repeatable Weighted Push-Ups and Standing Log Overhead Press tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use strict weighted push-ups and enter added weight only

Keep a straight line from shoulders to heels, lower the sternum to roughly two to three inches from the floor, and finish every rep at full elbow lockout while the added weight stays fixed. Enter only the external load, not bodyweight plus load. Do not enter knee, incline, decline, bench, box, partial, kipping, rest-pause, sagging, or pike push-ups.

Use the Standing Log Overhead Press setup and load convention

Standing Log Overhead Press only. Press a strongman log from a stable standing rack position to controlled overhead lockout with balanced feet and no second dip unless the entered variation explicitly allows push press. Do not enter barbell overhead press substitution, axle substitution, push jerk, split jerk, unstable layback, failed lockout, rack bounce, machine pressing, or assistance.
