Leg Press (45° Sled) vs Side-Handle Car Deadlift Strength Standards
Compare your leg press and side-handle car deadlift against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Test each lift with 1–12 strict reps to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.
First lift: total plates loaded on the 45-degree sled and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back. For the second exercise, frame rotates about fixed transverse pivot whose axis is 96.00 inches horizontally from handle centerline in start position. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
Leg Press vs Side-Handle Car Deadlift Strength Standards
The paired standards below show what the 45-degree leg press and side-handle car deadlift each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.
Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Leg Press / Side-Handle Car Deadlift in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Leg Press vs Side-Handle Car Deadlift Result Is Calculated
The calculator estimates both one-rep maxes, rates each one against its exercise and bodyweight standards, and then compares the two ratings.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
A one-rep set uses the entered weight. For 2–12 reps, both formulas are calculated and the lower estimate is retained.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Leg Press and Side-Handle Car Deadlift sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the 45-degree leg press strength level
The 45-degree leg press rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so heavier lifters are expected to press more sled load without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.
3. Find the side-handle car deadlift strength level
The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Side-Handle Car Deadlift tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
The target rises more slowly than bodyweight so larger lifters are expected to lift more without requiring strength to increase pound for pound.
4. Compare the two results
The lift with the lower Beginner-to-Elite rating is the priority. If both ratings match, the calculator requires a 10-point difference in next-level progress before naming a priority; otherwise it reports Balanced.
The result identifies the lower standards rating, not its cause. Technique, fatigue, training history, and set quality can all affect the comparison. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the leg press | Adjust 45-degree leg press targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule. |
| Rate the side-handle car deadlift | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
Enter both sets above to see the estimated maxes, assigned levels, next-level targets, and comparison result.

Leg Press and Side-Handle Car Deadlift Exercises Used by This Calculator
Compare like-for-like attempts by keeping the 45-degree leg press and side-handle car deadlift setup consistent with their individual rules. Use strict, repeatable Leg Press and Side-Handle Car Deadlift tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.
Use a 45-degree plate-loaded sled leg press
Keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back, and press to controlled full knee extension. Do not enter a horizontal, vertical, selectorized, single-leg, high-foot, partial, bounced, or assisted press.
Use the Side-Handle Car Deadlift setup and load convention
Use rigid side-handle frame with two parallel 1.25-inch-diameter neutral handles, 25.00 inches center-to-center, centered 16.00 inches above level floor at dead stop. Lifter stands centered between rails. Frame rotates about fixed transverse pivot whose axis is 96.00 inches horizontally from handle centerline in start position. Vehicle or ballast is secured symmetrically; record vehicle/ballast identity, location, frame/pivot configuration, and declared physical mass for traceability only. Before testing, measure combined upward force required at both handles from dead-stop height through valid full-standing handle height at vertical intervals no greater than 1.00 inch, using calibrated weight cells/force gauges with apparatus configured exactly as lifted. Enter maximum measured effective handle resistance across path; do not enter car, axle, or frame mass. Begin motionless with feet fixed, arms straight, neutral grip beside body. Straps including figure-8 are allowed and must be applied before rep; chalk/belt/sleeves/wrist tape/shoes allowed. Deadlift suits/supportive briefs are prohibited. Lift frame continuously to motionless full knee/hip extension and upright control; no hitch, thigh support, bounce, frame rebound, stepping, or downward reversal. Lower to complete dead stop; judge/up-down commands optional but same standard applies. Whole reps 1–10.
