Leg Press (45° Sled) vs Keg Deadlift Strength Standards
Compare your leg press and keg deadlift against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Enter 1–12 reps for estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, priority.
First lift: total plates loaded on the 45-degree sled and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight used and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back. For the second exercise, wrap/scoop both hands beneath lower near/far shell quadrants; do not insert fingers into or deliberately grip upper/lower chimes, valve, spear opening, or attachments. Heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.
Leg Press vs Keg Deadlift Strength Standards
The paired standards below show what the 45-degree leg press and keg deadlift each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.
Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Leg Press / Keg Deadlift in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Leg Press vs Keg Deadlift Result Is Calculated
Both lifts are scored independently first: estimated max, bodyweight-adjusted strength level, and progress toward the next level. Those ratings drive the comparison.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
The entered weight is used directly for one rep. With 2–12 reps, both estimates are compared and the lower value is used.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
For the most useful Leg Press vs Keg Deadlift comparison, enter clean, difficult sets performed with the same technique and range of motion you use in training. Lower-rep sets usually require less extrapolation.
2. Find the 45-degree leg press strength level
The leg press standards use the sex-specific standards from the individual Leg Press tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
3. Find the keg deadlift strength level
The keg deadlift rating uses its sex-specific exercise standards. Reference targets at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women are scaled to the entered bodyweight by reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.
4. Compare the two results
The lift with the lower Beginner-to-Elite rating is the priority. If both ratings match, the calculator requires a 10-point difference in next-level progress before naming a priority; otherwise it reports Balanced.
A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Estimate each max | Use the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result. |
| Rate the leg press | Adjust 45-degree leg press targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds rule. |
| Rate the keg deadlift | Use the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule. |
| Compare different levels | Name the lower-level lift as the priority. |
| Compare matching levels | Use Balanced unless the difference in progress toward the next level reaches 10 points. |
The calculator above applies these steps to your exact entries and reports both lift ratings, both next targets, and the final comparison.
How Men’s Leg Press and Keg Deadlift Standards Differ
What the men’s data shows:
The standards come closest at 120 lb.
The higher target remains with Leg Press for Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite throughout the table.
At Elite, the difference is 84.8 kg at 120 lb and 155.6 kg at 300 lb.
How to read this chart: Choose a strength level and follow its line across bodyweight. Values show the Keg Deadlift standard minus the Leg Press standard: zero means equal, above zero means the Keg Deadlift standard is higher, and below zero means the Leg Press standard is higher. Leg Press and Keg Deadlift Exercises Used by This Calculator
For a useful comparison, perform a strict 45-degree leg press and a strict keg deadlift using the setup and load rules below. Use strict, repeatable Leg Press and Keg Deadlift tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.
Use a 45-degree plate-loaded sled leg press
Keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back, and press to controlled full knee extension. Do not enter a horizontal, vertical, selectorized, single-leg, high-foot, partial, bounced, or assisted press.
Use the Keg Deadlift setup and load convention
Use one THIELMANN US 1/2-barrel stainless keg: 15.5 US gal, 15.55 in diameter, 23.22 in high, 29.75 lb nominal tare; no external lifting handles or attachments. Weigh the fully prepared closed keg. Enter actual total mass including keg, closure, and contents; do not infer weight from capacity, fill volume, or nominal tare. Place keg on cylindrical side with longitudinal axis horizontal/transverse, circular heads left/right, and valve opening centered at 12 o’clock. Keg begins motionless and fully floor-supported. Stand centered immediately behind. Wrap/scoop both hands beneath lower near/far shell quadrants; do not insert fingers into or deliberately grip upper/lower chimes, valve, spear opening, or attachments. Lift continuously without rolling keg toward body, first lapping it, or regripping. Arms remain materially long; incidental leg contact is allowed, but keg may not be supported on thighs/lap. Finish motionless and fully standing with knees/hips extended, trunk erect, keg clear of floor and below pelvis in original grip; no backward lean or thigh rest. Reset exact start between reps. Whole reps 1–10. Allowed exact keg/fill, belt, sleeves, wrist tape, chalk, shoes.
