Leg Press (45° Sled) vs Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift Strength Standards

Compare your leg press and dumbbell romanian deadlift against strength standards for your sex and bodyweight. Test each lift with 1–12 strict reps to see estimated one-rep maxes, strength levels, next targets, and priority.

First lift: total plates loaded on the 45-degree sled and 1–12 strict reps. Second lift: weight of one dumbbell and 1–12 strict reps. Pounds or kilograms. For the first exercise, keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back. For the second exercise, movement must be initiated by a controlled hip hinge, not a squat pattern. Each lift is compared with its own standards, so the heavier lift is not automatically the stronger one.

The paired standards below show what the 45-degree leg press and dumbbell romanian deadlift each require at the same strength level. They are separate exercise targets rather than a prescribed difference between your lifts.

Select the appropriate sex table and nearest bodyweight, then choose a strength-level column. Values are ordered Leg Press / Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift in pounds with kilograms underneath. The calculator above handles exact bodyweight and set inputs.

How Your Leg Press vs Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift Result Is Calculated

The comparison starts by estimating each max separately. It then rates both lifts against their own standards before identifying the lower result.

1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set

The entered weight is used directly for one rep. With 2–12 reps, both estimates are compared and the lower value is used.

  • Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
  • Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)

Use recent Leg Press and Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.

2. Find the 45-degree leg press strength level

For 45-degree leg press, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.

3. Find the dumbbell romanian deadlift strength level

The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.

Two-thirds scaling raises the target as bodyweight rises while limiting the size advantage that a direct one-to-one adjustment would create.

4. Compare the two results

Each max receives a level from Beginner through Elite. The lower-level lift becomes the priority. At matching levels, a priority appears only when one lift is at least 10 points farther from its next level; otherwise the result is Balanced.

A priority result is a standards comparison, not a diagnosis. Differences in technique, fatigue, practice, or set effort may influence it. Age range is recorded anonymously and does not alter these standards.

StageWhat happens
Estimate each maxUse the entered weight for 1 rep; for 2–12 reps, keep the lower formula result.

Rate the dumbbell romanian deadliftUse the exercise-specific estimated max and adjust targets to exact bodyweight with the two-thirds scaling rule.

Leg Press and Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift Exercises Used by This Calculator

Valid results depend on using the specified 45-degree leg press and dumbbell romanian deadlift technique and load convention. Use strict, repeatable Leg Press and Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift tests that follow each exercise’s setup, range of motion, equipment, and load rules. Do not mix variations, assistance, partial range, momentum, or different load conventions.

Use a 45-degree plate-loaded sled leg press

Keep both feet flat and approximately shoulder-width, descend until the thighs reach at least parallel to the platform without lifting the hips or rounding the lower back, and press to controlled full knee extension. Do not enter a horizontal, vertical, selectorized, single-leg, high-foot, partial, bounced, or assisted press.

Use the Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift setup and load convention

Movement is performed using two dumbbells simultaneously. Exercise begins from a fully upright standing position with dumbbells held at the sides or slightly in front of the thighs. Each repetition must begin with hips and knees fully extended. Movement must be initiated by a controlled hip hinge, not a squat pattern. Dumbbells must remain close to the legs throughout the movement. Dumbbells may not drift excessively forward away from the legs to artificially shorten the hamstring stretch requirement. Knees may remain slightly bent but excessive knee flexion is not allowed. Torso must remain braced with a neutral spine throughout the repetition. Dumbbells must descend to at least mid-shin depth while maintaining neutral spinal alignment and continuous hamstring tension. Hips must fully extend at the top of every repetition. Top position must be reached through hip extension rather than excessive spinal extension or leaning backward. Controlled eccentric lowering is required. Repetitions must remain continuous without bouncing off the bottom position. No excessive torso rounding, jerking, hitching, or momentum-assisted lockout allowed. No exaggerated knee bend turning the movement into a squat allowed. No touch-and-go bouncing or rebound-assisted reps allowed. Feet must remain planted throughout the movement. Allowed equipment: dumbbells only. Disallowed variation 1: barbell Romanian deadlifts. Disallowed variation 2: stiff-leg deadlifts with locked knees. Disallowed variation 3: conventional deadlift-style reps starting from the floor. Disallowed variation 4: squat-pattern reps with excessive knee flexion. Disallowed variation 5: single-leg dumbbell Romanian deadlifts. Disallowed variation 6: partial-range reps that avoid full stretch depth. Rep is complete when the lifter reaches full hip extension under control with stable posture and neutral spinal alignment.
