How Your Swiss Bar Row vs T-Bar Bent Over Row Result Is Calculated
Both lifts are scored independently first: estimated max, bodyweight-adjusted strength level, and progress toward the next level. Those ratings drive the comparison.
1. Estimate a one-rep max from each set
A one-rep set uses the entered weight. For 2–12 reps, both formulas are calculated and the lower estimate is retained.
- Epley: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)
- Brzycki: weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)
Use recent Swiss Bar Row and T-Bar Bent Over Row sets with consistent technique and full intended range of motion. Difficult lower-rep sets generally make the estimated max less dependent on extrapolation.
2. Find the swiss bar row strength level
For swiss bar row, the individual exercise thresholds start from reference bodyweights of 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women. Exact-bodyweight targets use reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
3. Find the t-bar bent over row strength level
The standards use the sex-specific thresholds from the individual T-Bar Bent Over Row tool. Targets begin at 190 lb for men and 150 lb for women, then adjust to exact bodyweight with reference target × (user bodyweight ÷ reference bodyweight) to the two-thirds power.
This adjustment expects larger lifters to move more weight, but it does not increase the target pound for pound with bodyweight.
4. Compare the two results
Strength level decides the comparison first. Matching levels remain Balanced unless progress toward the next target differs by at least 10 points.
The result identifies the lower standards rating, not its cause. Technique, fatigue, training history, and set quality can all affect the comparison. Age range is recorded anonymously but does not change these standards.

Use the following execution standard:. – Bar is fixed in a landmine or T-bar setup with plates loaded on the free end. – Lifters hinge at the hips to achieve a bent-over torso position (approximately 30–45°). – Arms start fully extended at the bottom of each rep. – Bar is pulled toward the lower chest or upper abdomen. – Rep counts only if the bar makes controlled contact with the torso. – Lifters must maintain a stable torso angle without excessive jerking or torso rise. – No bouncing the weight off the floor or using momentum to initiate reps. – Each rep must return to a full stretch at the bottom. – Consistent range of motion and control must be maintained across reps. – No use of leg drive or hip extension to initiate the pull. – Raw lifting only. Disallowed variations:. – chest-supported T-bar row. – machine row variations (plate-loaded or selectorized rows not matching T-bar mechanics). – partial range of motion reps. – excessive torso extension or “rowing to upright”. – bouncing reps off the floor. – assisted or supported rows. – Smith machine variations.
